How do I start using wireless internet?

I just bought a new Sony Vaio laptop, and I am trying to find out how to use my wireless networking. Can anyone help me with trying to figure out about internet cards and adapters and routers? I am so confused. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!How do I start using wireless internet?
