On my laptop, there is a button that I can push and hold to turn on wireless capabilities. However, the button is broke and although the device (WAN) is enabled and working properly under system devices, I'm still not able to browse the internet. The reason is because the wireless capability is not activated. How can I go through the system to turn on my wireless capability? How can I enable wireless capability on my laptop computer?
Depending on the make of the laptop - You should have a shortcut to enable / diable wireless functionality. I am not sure about the old ones. In case of dell 6400 - This is fn+F2

How do I avoid getting disconnected with my wireless router?
On my laptop which has wireless internet, everytime the phone rings or someone is talking on it, I get disconnected from the internet. However, this does not happen on my desktop. (Which is not wireless) Why does this happen, and what can I do to fix it?How do I avoid getting disconnected with my wireless router?
Change the channel of the router. If there are any cordless phones in the building they may share the channel. Keep them as far away from the router (including their base stations) as possible. Unlikely, since the desktop does not suffer, but check that ALL the phone equipment in use is connected through a dsl filter, not straight to the wall. You must have one filter on every piece of equipment and the dsl router. How do I avoid getting disconnected with my wireless router?
Go into your router. Change your wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11. Do not use any other of the channels. This is because all of the channels have overlap. In order to get the maximum number of channels with no overlap, you have to use 1, 6, and 11.

How to get a wireless connection on a factory-state computer?
Okay, so recently I wiped my computer with a recovery cd. I can't get a wireless connection on my computer! The wireless router is already installed on another computer, it's a linksys WRT54GX. The 'LAN or High-Speed Internet' option shows up, but the wireless connection doesn't show up at all. Help! How to get a wireless connection on a factory-state computer?
Assuming Windows-
Go to your device manager (start %26gt; control panel %26gt; system %26gt; device manager) and expand the 'network adapters' sub menu. - If you see anything that says 'wireless' there, right-click it and make sure that it is enabled (if it says 'disable', it's good, if it says 'enable', click it). If you don't see it there then the device is either missing or the device driver is missing and needs to be reinstalled.
If it is a laptop, if equipped make sure that your wireless NIC switch is on.
Then scan for networks.
Good luck! How to get a wireless connection on a factory-state computer?
What is the brand of the computer? And the model. As soon as you answer these questions, you can go to the manufacturers website, and within, you will find a sub page named support. You can then find all of your computer's downloads once you enter your model number. You want the wireless driver, or wireless software driver.
For example, if i had a dell, I would go to dell.com and on the right hand side click on support, services, and drivers.... then id search for the model number of my computer.

How do I add more computers to a wireless network?
I have recently moved home to my parents, and can no longer connect to their wireless network.
There is a box saying 'attempting to connect' or something, and then I get an error message.
I think the problem might be that my sister has got a laptop since I have been away, and so there are currently 4 computers connected to the network. I heard that some networks automatically set a limit of 4 client PCs, so how do I increase this?
I think I read something about logging into a router, but cant remember anything more. Incidentally, the wireless box is not physically connected to any of the computers.
Hope you guys can help, thanks! How do I add more computers to a wireless network?
your wireless card should scan for a network to connect to you should be able to connect to it then. Find your internet connection and click on it, see what options you have.
If you want to clear the list of computers in the DHCP list, which is the deal that automatically gives out ip addresses, just, restart the router that should do it. Then try to connect again. If the number is limited to 4 and your sis ain't around right now, you can take her spot. How do I add more computers to a wireless network?
if you are connected via cable to the router it usually has a limit of 4 but if it is wireless try to reconfigure your settings and see if it shows the hotspot connection and try to access it again. with some network interface cards ( what is used to connect to the internet or a network) some cards have their own software that will do this for you. check with old disks or documents that came with or download patches or doucmentation from the vendor
Get on your sister's laptop and click on....start....run..press enter....a black dos window will open up.
In that window type... ipconfig and press enter. It wil;l give you some info like IP address etc...
Look at the default gateway. Should be like 192.168.0.1 or something. Open a browser(internet Explorer) and type that address into the browser.
You will then be asked for a username and password. You will need to know this. IUt should be in the router manual or you can look the default one up online.
Once you have logged onto the router, then look at the dhcp addresses. This is where it would limit the number of computers. If that is ok then check your wireless settings. see what type on encryption you are using and match the encryption level and the key on your laptop.
Hope this helps...Email me if you cant figure it out. I may not get back to you tomorrow though. Going to see transformers...Yes I am a Nerd;)

The default amount of wireless computer ( or devices ) that can connect to a wireless router is around 250.
Most likely your sister was high tech and turned on the wireless security .
You need the special code to get in.
If the security is not on try changing the channel from channel 6 to 1 or 11.

How do I connect a wireless network adapter to my xbox?
I am getting xbox live but don't know how to connect the wireless adapter to my internet connection. How do I connect a wireless network adapter to my xbox?
as far as literally connecting it to your xbox, it connects by USB (duh duh duh duh!) when you connect it and go through all of your xbox live account setup, you will have to go to the network settings and from there you can choose your wireless network to connect to. if the network is locked, you will have to type in WEP key (suprise). once you've connected to your internet, you're good to go. the wireless adapter automatically picks up your IP and DNS settings, unless if you have the settings set to manual, which you will have to enter everything manually. i'm pretty sure this is it, have fun on live. How do I connect a wireless network adapter to my xbox?
you just need the wifi connectorr for the XBOX and the connector should just pick up on your wireless internet. The XBOW dose not come with a built in wireless connection unlike the PS3 that does have a wireless connector.
And if you already have the wifi connector you just plug it into the USB port in the XBOX and it should pick up the wireles conection by it self.hair styling

How exactly does a wireless card work with a laptop?
I want to know if all I need to be wireless is the wireless card. Do I still need a wireless modem? Thank youHow exactly does a wireless card work with a laptop?
There are two varieties of wireless cards available. The first is a network card, which will allow you to wirelessly connect to a home or office network. These would require an access point to connect to, such as a wireless router. Normally, you'd set up a cable modem, then feed it into the wireless router, and connect your laptop using that access point.
The second card is a wireless internet card, which downloads and uploads from a 3G network. These run based on cell tower availability, and are normally sold by your cell phone service provider. They're typically more expensive, but offer you more options for roaming. These do not require an access point.
Best of luck! How exactly does a wireless card work with a laptop?
For wireless to work you need a wireless device in your laptop AND a wireless router (or wireless modem).
Before you buy a wireless card check to make sure if your laptop already has one fitted internally. Nearly all laptops sold in the past 3 years already have one inside.
The only exception to this is if you get a mobile wireless card. This does not use your home internet connection. It uses the high speed mobile phone network instead. This costs extra per month of course.
If you just want wireless at your home, then buy a wireless router and connect it to your modem.

How can I network my notebook to print wireless?
I have a Linksys WRTG (or something like that) wireless access point router providing wireless internet to my notebook from being hooked up to my cable modem. I have an iMac 08 as my main PC, and a Windows Vista notebook. How would I set it up so I can print with the printer that is downstairs with my main computer when I'm upstairs on my notebook? How can I network my notebook to print wireless?
you need a wireless print server attached to your printer. you can connect the wireless print server to your printer via USB.
Once the Print server is attached and powered on your laptop should be able to pick up you printer as a wireless device.

WHY DOESN'T ANYONE UNDERSTAND, THE QUESTIONER WANTS TO PRINT WIRELESSLYHow can I network my notebook to print wireless?
just make sure that file and printer sharing are turned on, and set up a new printer with the address to the other computer and the printer name
you will need to enable printer sharing on the computer the printer is connected to then install the printer on the second (3rd 4th etc) computers. they will actually be sending the print command to the computer connected to the printer and then it will print for you. this means the printer will have to be mac and windows compatable...

you can either grab the c.d. that came with the printer and install it on the comp. if the printer is old then you would have to go to the website of the manufacturer of the printer and download the drivers for vista. once you have done that you would go to network, add a printer tab and ( add network printer) once you have chosen that option it will find the drivers and the printer and hopefully connect. but thats not a guarantee. after all it is vista.
1. If the printer is a Network printer, then you just add the printer via the IP address of the printer.
2. If its not a network printer, then you will have to share the printer from your main computer(Host). After sharing the printer, connect to your iMac computer using UNC (example: \\macpcname or \\macpcipaddress) press Enter after typing in the hostname (macpcname).
3. At this point you should see the shared files and folders on your iMac. If you see the printer icon, right click and select Connect. It should disappear after sometime, this means it went through.
4. If everything goes well, the printer should be in your Printer's folder via Control Panel.
Hope this helps. If you have more questions, IM me at benjaminc1430.
You have a couple of different options. For starters, you can use ';Samba'; to make your imac impersonate a WindowsNT file and print server. So as far as your PC is concerned, it thinks it is talking to another PC with a printer.
MacOS also speaks the stock standard BSD Unix method of sharing printers knowns as ';LPD'; or ';LPR'; (the command to print is ';lpr'; which speaks to a server called ';lpd'; - the protocol itself doesn't really have a name but most people either call it LPR or LPD). In my humble opinion (mind you, I work on Unix day in and day out - Solaris, AIX, Linux, etc.) LPD is much easier to setup.
On your PC, you tell it it is a ';local'; (not a ';networked';) printer, and then when it comes to selecting a port, like ';LPT1';, select ';create a new port';. Use the pulldown menu to select an ';LPR port';. Give it the IP address of your iMac as the print server. You might need to enable something on your mac too to allow it to accept LPD traffic.
Frankly, I have an ethernet based print server. This is a small box that has a Parallel port and and ethernet port and all it does is serve up printing (via SMB, via LPR, etc.). With one of these (and they do make USB models now), your printer isn't tied to either computer.

How can all my computers have wireless connection with a modem?
I can't figure out how to have all my computers to have wireless connection. I'm connecting the modem to my hard drive right now, but I'm planning on switching to a laptop...it would be crazy to plug wires on my laptop all the time.
Is there a way to have my modem and my wireless connector modem to actually be wireless? (I'm using the netgear wireless modem to connect another computer wirelessly). How can all my computers have wireless connection with a modem?
You should be able to connect them all to the Netgear modem. Don't worry about the number of them. (If it's wireless, the modem contains its own router.)
Hope that helps. How can all my computers have wireless connection with a modem?
if u are plugging it into a hard drive that is just epic failure.
you are going to need a wireless router you can find one at a major retailer like bestbuy, circuitcity (nevermind them), and even walmart
First, its best to understand your terms. a modem is a single connection to the internet, usually connected to a phone line (DSL or dial-up modem), a coaxial cable line (cable modem), or a satellite/microwave line.
You then would use a router to split that one internet connection into multiple local connections (called LAN or local area network), which you seem to have the Netgear for (most netgear's are router's, look up your model number online for sure). Most routers are also wireless access points as they serve the purpose of routing the one internet connection as well as providing wireless reception for laptops.
So to answer your question, since you are already using the wireless portion of the netgear for the other computer, you can simply get a laptop with a wireless card (most times built into the laptop), and connect to the existing wireless network from your netgear.

How should I setup a wireless network in a high rise condo?
I can detect 13 other wireless networks and think this may be affecting my ability to find my own network as well as the speed of the network. I have hidden my SSID and shifted to 802.11n only which helped a bit. Any other recommendations would be helpful. How should I setup a wireless network in a high rise condo?
That's good you hid your SSID. That will stop eavesdropping or somebody accidently connecting to your network. You should also setup your wireless with WPA2 if you can. WPA as a minimum. Do not use WEP! Remember that the WPA2 password must be entered on both the router and the computer before communication will work.

How do you connect to wireless internet from your house?
I just got a laptop and I cant connect to wireless internet. My neighbors connection comes up but its locked. How do you connect to wireless internet from your house?
You need to have a wireless router at your house. It would need to be connected to your Internet modem. If you do not currently have Internet service there is no legal way to do it unless you go to your neighbor and ask permission. He would then give you his access key.How do you connect to wireless internet from your house?

For example, if i had a dell, I would go to dell.com and on the right hand side click on support, services, and drivers.... then id search for the model number of my computer.chair rental for barber

And if you already have the wifi connector you just plug it into the USB port in the XBOX and it should pick up the wireles conection by it self.
