My desktop has a cable modem. I asked at Walmart and was told to buy the router and adapter. My notebook has a wireless card built in already. Please tell me what to do.How do I set up a wireless connection with a Belkin wireless g router and my notebook?
First go into network connection and see if there is a wireless icon in there. If there is then double click on that and set it up from there.
However, if it is not there, go to Control Panel%26gt;Administrative Tools%26gt;Computer Management%26gt;And find the icon on the left hand side that says Device Manager.
Once in there click ';Network Adapters'; and see if
a) You wireless network card is showing
or b) If it has a problem or not (usually shows a red x or a yellow sign on it)
Mark down what brand and model your wireless network card is, go to google and search the manufacturers name. From there find a download or products and services page and find a Driver download for WLAN. once installed you card should work. How do I set up a wireless connection with a Belkin wireless g router and my notebook?
Plug modem into cable. Plug in power cable. Turn on modem. Plug ethernet cord into back of modem. Plug ethernet cable into wireless router. Plug in power cable for wireless router. Turn on.
Done.
Unplug the modem from power. Switching off does not work. Connect the WAN port of the router to the modem. Power the modem, wait for it to sync, then power on the router. Connect your desktop to the router and start it up, then use it to configure the router. SET ENCRYPTION for your own protection. Then se the laptop wireless utility to find your network, set matching encryption and connect. I am very surprised your laptop does not have a wireless card, if it does you do not need the adaptor.
Easy way, call the 800 number for Belkin and let them walk you through the process.
Have you follow the instructions on the manual, for cable modems many times you must set the router to static ip, and enable wireless on the router, some routers have the wireless option off by default, also make sure security is enabled, or someone else will have free internet thanks to you..
Depending on the model number check the following links, or search for the one you have.
