I have another computer that is Windows Xp. I want this computer to have wireless internet like my other computers. The only options I have is dial up and broadband =.=';. Does anyone know how to create a wireless network on Windows XP?How to connect a computer to wireless ?
You would need more details than what you posted for an accurate answer. Does the pc in question even have a wireless network interface? How to connect a computer to wireless ?
You need a wireless router hooked up to your modem, and you also need appropriate hardware for your new xp computer. If it isn't wireless ready, you can buy wireless network cards to install.
You will need a wireless card on your computer to get connect with wireless. Buy a wireless card from local computer store. Thanks
You need:
-1 modem
-1 wireless router
- ';x'; amount of computers with wireless adapters externally or internally installed
(NOTE: If you already have other computers hooked up to your wireless internet that you are legally paying for then I am going to assume that you have both a modem and a working wireless router. If you don't have these then you will have to do quite a bit of extra steps before starting to hook up your computer to wireless internet.)
First, make sure that the computer you want to set up is able to connect to a wireless signal. If it's a laptop go to Start %26gt; Conect To %26gt; ';Wireless Network Connection';. If it doesn't have that option above ';Show All Connections'; or it is a desktop then it doesn't have a wireless adapter. You will have to go to Best Buy and buy one. (Bring your laptop with you or have your Product number and Serial numbers as well as your laptop brand name and model number written down so they know which adapter will be compatible.)
Once you've made sure you have a wireless adapter on your computer and set up your router so that it is transmitting a wireless signal, go to your computer and click on Start %26gt; Connect To %26gt; ';Wireless Network Connection';. This will make a new window pop up and you should see a small computer icon with three wireless 'rays' around it appear on your taskbar to the right.
This new window that pops up, called ';Wireless Network Connection Status'; will give you the options to look at ';Properties'; of the connection, ';Disable'; the connection or ';View Wireless Networks';. If you don't know how to set up a wireless network on your own then don't bother looking at or changing anything in the ';Properties'; section. Don't ';Disable'; the connection either. Try to ';View Wireless Networks';.
It may work and show you a list of different networks. It might tell you that 'Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection use that software.' If that's the case then look next to the little computer icon that appeared and find another icon that has similar looking 'rays' coming out of it. Mine happens to be through Broadcom so mine looks like a red ribbon with green rays. Right click that icon (assuming you can find it) and it will give you another list of options.
It should give you the option to go to ';Help'; or ';About'; but it should also give you options to ';Connect To'; or ';Open Utility';. Go to the Utility window and that should show you the list of available wireless networks. All that is left is to find the network you have already set up and possibly the network key (password) if you have secured it. If you're in the area of the router your computer should now have wireless internet access. :)
To connect a wireless router and create a wireless network is fairly simple. First go buy a router. It should come with software (a CD) that allows you to install it on your computer. Plug your computer into your modem via a blue Ethernet cable. If your computer is a desktop make sure the cable is long enough to hook up to your modem from where it is. If your computer is a laptop then just move it over to your modem. A modem is a black box that hooks into your wall through a coax cable that is thick and black and has a prong that twists into the jack on either end. This is where you get cable, telephone and internet connections. It will have an Ethernet jack on the back next to a USB jack (not a USB port) and possibly two phone jacks. (Ethernet jacks look very similar to phone jacks but are slightly larger.)
Once your computer is connected to your modem an icon that has two computers should pop up on your taskbar and the screens of the computers should flash blue. If they aren't flashing and a red X is on them with a popup saying ';a local cable is unplugged'; then either a) your ethernet cable is faulty, b) your modem isn't plugged in and/or working, c) your modem isn't receiving internet or d) your ethernet jack on either your computer, your modem or both is not working. Try restarting your computer if this happens. Sometimes it helps your computer recognize the modem. If it still doesn't work call your internet service provider (e.g. Cox, Blue Valley, etc.) for more detailed help.
If it does connect to your computer and the blue screens are flashing then you should have internet capabilities on your computer. Good job. Now insert the CD-ROM that came with the wireless router and follow the instructions. It should tell you which cords plug into which outlets/jacks and what order and position they should each be in. If you follow this to the letter everything will be fine. Don't assume something goes where it isn't and don't plug things in before they tell you to.
Once that's done the software should help you set up your connection options. It will allow you to name the network (it doesn't have to be pretty but make it personal so you can tell which network is yours lat
you can post question and find more answer at here
You need a wireless hub %26amp; a router to connect both. You can get them from local computer shop. Thanks
