I have an 80GB PS3 and want to be able to go online. Can I use a wireless router to do this? And if so, do I have to have a wireless connection or will the wireless router pick up my DSL connection? How do wireless routers work with regard to my PS3?
If your Wireless Router has a built in DSL Modem, then you will just need the Wireless LAN Router.
Connect it to your DSL Line, and use your PC to configure the router (i.e. set a passkey for your WLAN security).
Then let the PS3 scan for WLAN devices, and let the PS3 find your new router.
Enter the Passkey from above, and your PS3 is online.
When you are about to buy a new WLAN router, make sure the router supports UPnP (don't confuse UPnP with Plug'n'Play from USB devices or the likes). How do wireless routers work with regard to my PS3?
Yes you can use a wireless router. Connect your DSL modem to the wireless router via an Ethernet cable and the router transmits the wireless signals to the PS3.
However, you're more likely to run into connection issues with a wireless setup. If your DSL modem is really far away from the PS3 or you really don't wanna use a 100 foot Ethernet cord, then use a wireless router that's compatible with ';G'; wireless network devices.
Yes you can however in my experience wireless is not real stable so I chose to go wired simply because when I'm online playing intense shooters etc I need a stable connection and wired works for me versus wireless. For detailed information on a basic wireless connection click the link below !
Hook up the router to a PC, it shud then pick up a DSL, then scan for a network with PS3 and it should find it.
