How do I set up a linksys wireless system so you have to have a password to get online, instead of it open?

I have a desk top and that is where the dsl comes in and the wireless router comes in, with two laptops that are wireless ready. However I don't want the neihbors on my wireless connection. How do I set up a linksys wireless system so you have to have a password to get online, instead of it open?
You should enable WEP, WPA or WPA2. I don't know which Linksys router you have so I can't tell you exactly how to do this but it should be evident on the Configuration Panel. To reach that screen enter:

http://192.168.1.1/

into the address field of your browser.

You then need to enter a password. Leave the username blank and enter ';admin'; in the password field (providing you haven't already changed the password).

From there you need to navigate to the ';Wireless Security'; screen under the ';Wireless'; tab. You should be able to configure WEP, WPA or WPA2 from there. WPA2 is the preferable choice.

Once you've configured your laptops to connect to the router using the WEP, WPA or WPA2 key then your neighbors won't be able to connect to your network.

You should also change the password used to access the router. That's done under the ';Administration'; tab.How do I set up a linksys wireless system so you have to have a password to get online, instead of it open?
then turn on WEP

set your key

and that's it

unless your neighbor is some sort of hacker

he will not figure the channel, or key

also use MAC filter to only allow your laptops on the network ( it helps if you use a fixed IP address ) and exclude all others
put your disk back in and go to the linksys link establish your password and then go back and do it again, this time change your system settings. just did it my self, and both our laptops are running wireless and it's password protected
Try using mac filtering instead of passwords i find it more secure and safe. To configure my router I go to my web browser (firefox or IE) and I type 192.168.1.1 usually the factory user name is admin and the password is password or admin, u minght need to read the manual if this doesnt work. Once your in go to the wireless and configuration and under security or something of that sort you'll see mac filtering all you have to do is add the mac address of the devices you want to allow to connect to your network. Some router show you the mac address of devices already connected. If you can't find you laptops mac address try going to network configuration, select the wireless device and look at its properties somewhere there should tell you the mac address. Once you're all done you would never have to type a password and any devices that not in the allow list under the filter by mac section of your router wont connect to your router. Is easier and more secure than having a password. Is a lot easier to crack a password than to fake a mac address. Hope this help!
