On my laptop, there is a button that I can push and hold to turn on wireless capabilities. However, the button is broke and although the device (WAN) is enabled and working properly under system devices, I'm still not able to browse the internet. Okay, so recently I wiped my computer with a recovery cd. I can't get a wireless connection on my computer! The wireless router is already installed on another computer, it's a linksys WRT54GX. Once you have logged onto the router, then look at the dhcp addresses. This is where it would limit the number of computers. If that is ok then check your wireless settings. see what type on encryption you are using and match the encryption level and the key on your laptop.

Most likely your sister was high tech and turned on the wireless security .
You need the special code to get in.
If the security is not on try changing the channel from channel 6 to 1 or 11.

In my humble opinion (mind you, I work on Unix day in and day out - Solaris, AIX, Linux, etc.) LPD is much easier to setup.
On your PC, you tell it it is a ';local'; (not a ';networked';) printer, and then when it comes to selecting a port, like ';LPT1';, select ';create a new port';. Use the pulldown menu to select an ';LPR port';. Give it the IP address of your iMac as the print server. You might need to enable something on your mac too to allow it to accept LPD traffic.
Frankly, I have an ethernet based print server. This is a small box that has a Parallel port and and ethernet port and all it does is serve up printing (via SMB, via LPR, etc.). With one of these (and they do make USB models now), your printer isn't tied to either computer.

you are going to need a wireless router you can find one at a major retailer like bestbuy, circuitcity (nevermind them), and even walmart
First, its best to understand your terms. a modem is a single connection to the internet, usually connected to a phone line (DSL or dial-up modem), a coaxial cable line (cable modem), or a satellite/microwave line.
You then would use a router to split that one internet connection into multiple local connections (called LAN or local area network), which you seem to have the Netgear for (most netgear's are router's, look up your model number online for sure). Most routers are also wireless access points as they serve the purpose of routing the one internet connection as well as providing wireless reception for laptops.
So to answer your question, since you are already using the wireless portion of the netgear for the other computer, you can simply get a laptop with a wireless card (most times built into the laptop), and connect to the existing wireless network from your netgear.

You should be able to connect them all to the Netgear modem. Don't worry about the number of them. (If it's wireless, the modem contains its own router.)

First, its best to understand your terms. a modem is a single connection to the internet, usually connected to a phone line (DSL or dial-up modem), a coaxial cable line (cable modem), or a satellite/microwave line.
You then would use a router to split that one internet connection into multiple local connections (called LAN or local area network), which you seem to have the Netgear for (most netgear's are router's, look up your model number online for sure). Most routers are also wireless access points as they serve the purpose of routing the one internet connection as well as providing wireless reception for laptops.
So to answer your question, since you are already using the wireless portion of the netgear for the other computer, you can simply get a laptop with a wireless card (most times built into the laptop), and connect to the existing wireless network from your netgear.

Look at the default gateway. Should be like 192.168.0.1 or something. Open a browser(internet Explorer) and type that address into the browser.
You will then be asked for a username and password. You will need to know this. IUt should be in the router manual or you can look the default one up online.
Once you have logged onto the router, then look at the dhcp addresses. This is where it would limit the number of computers. If that is ok then check your wireless settings. see what type on encryption you are using and match the encryption level and the key on your laptop.

Most likely your sister was high tech and turned on the wireless security .
You need the special code to get in.
If the security is not on try changing the channel from channel 6 to 1 or 11.

you can either grab the c.d. that came with the printer and install it on the comp. if the printer is old then you would have to go to the website of the manufacturer of the printer and download the drivers for vista. once you have done that you would go to network, add a printer tab and ( add network printer) once you have chosen that option it will find the drivers and the printer and hopefully connect. but thats not a guarantee. after all it is vista.

you can either grab the c.d. that came with the printer and install it on the comp. if the printer is old then you would have to go to the website of the manufacturer of the printer and download the drivers for vista. once you have done that you would go to network, add a printer tab and ( add network printer) once you have chosen that option it will find the drivers and the printer and hopefully connect. but thats not a guarantee. after all it is vista.

Also, this firmware will allow you to change the router into an access point, a router, a client bridge, or a wireless repeater; thereby getting the most bang for the buck... Flash your router with the compatible firmware of your choice. (I can't stress compatible enough - don't FRY or BRICK your router!!!) Further, you might even use the inexpensive router over the one they gave you, as you will have much more flexibility. Oh did i mention it's free? Good luck.

Copy down that key somewhere safe to use when other computers want to connect because they will need to have that key to enter as well.
Change your user name and password: admin is the default that comes out of the box and holding the reset button down erases the previous user name and password your friend would of setup for his/her connection.
