How do you get a wireless network to work without it bein connected to a desktop?

Our wireless network just stopped working and we're at a loss. It has been connected to a desktop that's 10 years old, and we're thinking that it's probably because of that. So, now all the computers at home cannot connect and we've been without the internet for almost a week! Help.How do you get a wireless network to work without it bein connected to a desktop?
You need to get a internet card incerted to your labtops on the side I just cant remember what uit's called. But this is if you have a old laptop if it's new then you just need to go to control panal%26gt; internet options%26gt;then you need to answer few questions and go through the wizard and thats that.
