What is a wireless card for a laptop, and do you need to get some kind of wireless service for it?

My nephew is in the Army, and he wanted me to find him a laptop computer, but I don't understand how the wireless thing works. Some laptops come with wireless cards and some don't. I'm lost when it comes to laptops and what they need to work in the wireless capacity. Can someone please explain the wireless card thing to me and how it works? ok basically like the other posters have said most laptops do come with wireless network cards inbuilt. Wireless means just like it says.....no wires... especially when you connect to the internet or a network. In your case you are purchasing a laptop...make sure on the spec list it displays wireless network card or optimized for a wireless network...this is good if you want to be mobile and not restricted to sitting down and having a telephone cable or network cable going to your laptop. What is a wireless card for a laptop, and do you need to get some kind of wireless service for it?
These days, all notebooks come with wireless. If you find one that doesn't, don't buy it. Since you are going to buy one WITH wifi, you don't need to worry about the rest.
Yes, most laptops today do come with wireless. This allows the user surf the Internet with out any cables.
