How do I connect my laptop to wireless cable internet?

We live out in the middle of nowhere and we have wireless internet. I figured I would be able to connect my laptop since it was wireless. Well, I can't, it says it can't find a network. Any ideas? How do I connect my laptop to wireless cable internet?
Your laptop is using wireless G that connects to a home router that also uses wireless G standard.

There are two possibilities.

The wireless internet that is available to you requires an antenna on the roof that will provide an Ethernet cable that will connect to a router or a computer. The signals and standards for that wireless connection are totally different than the wireless G standard.

You will have to contact the wireless internet supplier and arrange to have an installation.

The wireless internet that is available is via a card that plugs into a port on your computer, again it is not the wireless G standard, but actually connects to a cell tower. Again you need to talk to the supplier and arrange to purchase the service. How do I connect my laptop to wireless cable internet?
It depends what your setup is, where is the cable internet access point broadcasting from?

Is it a home setup, where you have a coaxial cable plugged into a modem, then have a connection split into a wireless router?

If so, you will need to setup the router with an install disc, while connected to your computer through a network cable or firewire port, (depending on your specific setup).

This will enable you to set the router as the broadcasting device, and how it will transmit wireless internet and the speed at which it does so , (B,G,N), also you can set security features this way as well, to block others from using your internet without a password or (wep key).

Without knowing your specific internet /network setup that is about all I can suggest, assuming your internet /cable connection is in your home and utilizing a router.

It may also be a 2 in one device, where the cable company has setup a wireless modem, you may just need to setup the modem properly, if the cable company has not done so.

Also the issue could be with your personal computer, with the wireless device you are using, make sure it is installed correctly, and is setup with the correct drivers from the setup disk, if provided.

Hope that helps, with the information you have given thats the best I can do without further specifics.
You need a wireless router and connect it to your modem then it should work.
