The other answers are helpful, but for most people going into the router administrative page and making changes to the settings gets kind of scary and painful.

Another option is to use software called Network Magic for wireless network security. You can download the software here - http://www.networkmagic.com/product/wireless-networking.php .

Network Magic gives you an easy way to lock down your wireless network with just a click of a button.

Full disclosure - I work for Pure Networks - who makes Network Magic - but you'll see if you search other forums and Google that Network Magic has helped a lot of people with this and other networking issues. Plus, there is a free trial version. How do you switch from Unsecured wireless network to Security-enabled wireless network?
Logon to the router, and go into whats usually called wireless security!
logon to your routers set up page , change to either WEP or WPA , also take a note of the security key as you will need this to enter on any computer your connecting to your router
Login in to your router's console page and change security to WEP or WPA.
logon to your router to make any change in the default setting. If your router has both WEP and WAP, set a password to make it secure. You can also turn the ';broadcast'; setting to off so neighbor can not see your router ID.
